It is quite a shame how the signage today is so bland... check out these awesome classic signs I attempted to paint. They are all on el Camino real between san jose and burlingame.

le Opera

Just got back from a grand olde opera drawing session. This was a lot of fun, it was difficult to keep track of the story because I was focused on drawing, and because it was in Italian... but the poses and movement of the actors was so much fun to try to capture in my sketches.
Here is a sampling of some of the doodelidge that was had.

inventing people

for in my class of visual development we are to create a human with unique characteristics and a personality of his/her own, like a real human. These are some sketches of the (live action) characters I have been creating:

this character is a locksmith who lives in San Francisco. I was using many people for inspiration including my Dad, Tom Arnold, Rob Reiner, and this guy in this video here.

Kichenz

Just started my first class in visual development, where we imaginate things!
I imaginated this kitchen. It designed for a live-action film, about a Mexican-American boy living in Fresno in 1952.
I based it off of my old neighbors (the Hills') Kitchen.

Just Add Water

Sponges require routine cleaning; This is done properly by aggressively and thoroughly sqeezing ALL of the juicy dish liquid out of the porous little sponger. This MUST be done after every sponging session or else your hole laden cleaning utensil will become a putrid pile of fermenting food encrusted counter clinging synthetic sodium sulphate. The practice of this technique is termed, SPONGE DISCIPLINE.
The following animation is an illustrated example of what may happen if you do not use sponge discipline on a regular basis...

old man and the bear

have you ever wondered what it would be like if you accidentally picked up a bear on the side of the road, mistaking it for a hitch-hiker?

this is the first draft of a project that I am currently working on in my storyboarding class.
Here are some character sketches and visual development for the same project:

Englandertonvilleworld

I recently returned from a Visit to London, which is a small city in the England. I visited animation studios with a group of fellow shrunkenhead people. We went to the Framestore, and visited a fellow Shrunkenheadman who was working on putting the finishing touches on Spike Jonzes new movie "Where the Wild Things are". We also visited Studio AKA, Nexus, and cinesite, which all seemed to be really fun and inspiring places to work. I didnt have time for a whole lot of sketching, but I did many mental caracateurs of the goofy looking englander people, and I did this one of the flight attendant on the journey back to emerica.

analyzing animal animation animatics of animism with animosity

any comments on how to improve this animatic would be really helpful! I need as many critiques as possible before I start animating. ANYTHING, be cruel, crass, crude, callous, cocky, coarse, cold, churlish, critical, cloven-foot, choosy, close-minded or coldblooded.
thanks, enjoy.

PLumB

PLUMB: plumb is another word for lead. The Plumbing in old buildings used to be made of lead. This is how the word for a plumber came about. However, there is no such thing as a Plumberjack.
Here are some recent sketches:

radical animaticals

here is a bit of advice from the geniuses at birdwatching.com:
"Many beginning birders have been fooled by the look-alike downy and hairy woodpeckers. The hairy is bigger, but it can be hard to judge size when you see one alone. How to distinguish them? The most important field mark is the bill."
always good to remember...
so here is an animatic for my 30 sec. short film:

how 'bout some pepperoni?

Thanks to Jake Apotomus, and Paul Inkton, the shrunkenhead people gathered for a weeklong celebration of figure drawing at our 2nd annual figure drawing marathon.
HERE are some highlights of my adventure:

We were very fortunate and got to have Mr. Mike Matessi come in and blow our minds with his awesomeness, he totally changed the way I draw and think about drawing.

and sometimes the people in the class ar funner two draw than the model:

We also did some figure painting on the last few days:
